Can you believe we are already at the end of 2021? 2020 was a year that we will never forget, even though it would be nice to remove it from our memories. At the end of 2020, everyone was just so ready to get to 2021. But what happened when we stepped into 2021? Did all of our problems disappear? Did all of the problems in the world cease? Of course not. They rolled right into 2021 with us! And now that we are at the end of 2021, everyone is ready for 2022. I hate to break it to you, but just because the date on the calendar changes, doesn’t necessarily mean anything changes. Every single day is a fresh start and a clean slate. You don’t have to wait until the end of the year to make a change, or to choose hope over fear. You can do that today. If our hope is in the government, the church, or the world, we’re going to be disappointed every time. But if we want a hope that is with us through every storm and every setback, we can only find that in Jesus. He is the only thing that will never change. So how can we finish the year well, and not wait for the ball to drop to set new goals? Preparation starts now.

Here are 3 things we can do to start our preparation now:

  1. Look back

Take time to look back and reflect on your year. Think through the highs and the lows. Give yourself time to process everything that took place. Look at how far you have come and celebrate the wins! I bet there were more victories than you realized. Look at how far God has brought you and all that He has done through you.

  1. Let go

Let go of bitterness, regret, shame, and anything that will be a weight in this coming season. Before you step into a new year, take time to unpack the baggage and remove anything that doesn’t belong. We need to make room for the new God wants to bring to our lives!

  1. Rest

Allow yourself to slow down and do the things that fill your soul! Take time to think about where you want to go and what God is speaking for the new year. When we’re so busy running, we can sometimes miss his still, small voice in the silence.

And lastly, don’t forget to enjoy the holidays and be present with the ones you love!
