What is the lane God has called you to walk in? In a world where we have access to everyone’s lives 24/7, it can be easy to get caught up in comparison. Maybe God has called us to walk in a specific lane, but then we see what everyone else is doing, and we might question if we’re in the right place.

“Set your gaze on the path before you. With fixed purpose, looking straight ahead, ignore life’s distractions. Watch where you’re going! Stick to the path of truth, and the road will be safe and smooth before you. Don’t allow yourself to be sidetracked for even a moment or take the detour that leads to darkness.” | Proverbs 4:25-27 (The Passion)

That’s why Proverbs instructs us to focus on the path before us. To have a fixed purpose. To look straight ahead, not to the left or to the right. In another version, it says “Do not swerve to the right or to the left.” And the next part is a promise we can hold onto “And the road will be safe and smooth.” Don’t confuse this now, it doesn’t mean our path will be perfect, but the safest place we can be is in God’s perfect will for our lives. When we step outside of our lane to try to pursue someone else’s, we step outside the protection. There is grace for your race.

There are so many things that can sidetrack us in our calling:

  1. Comparison
  2. Sin
  3. Weights
  4. Fear of man

All of these things will hinder our growth. In Hebrews 11:1 in the NLT, it says “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.”.

We need to lay aside every weight that might slow us down so we can run with endurance the race before us.

Have you felt weighed down lately? Have you felt stuck? Has your growth felt like it’s taken a pause? Maybe it’s time to ask God to give you clarity in your race. Ask him to reveal the lane he is calling you to walk in and for fresh vision and perspective to run it well. He promises to give wisdom to all those who ask.

Keep running your race, stay in your lane, and keep pursuing growth in every area. You will go further than you think, and accomplish more than you could have ever dreamed when you stay within the safety of God’s will and purpose for your life.
