You were created to live fully alive and your soul was meant to thrive. But have you ever wondered how we could quite possibly achieve this life of abundance we read about?

It starts by doing more of what makes you come alive. In pursuit of chasing our goals and achieving, we can often let go of our hobbies and passions that make our soul come alive. In the rush and hurry of life, it robs us of the peace and joy we were created to live in.

There are 3 action steps we want to encourage you with today:

  1. Pick up a hobby

What’s something you love to do? Sometimes the most productive and spiritual thing we can do is go for a run. It may look mundane and insignificant, but it does wonders for our souls. Discover what you enjoy doing, and create time for it!

  1. Practice solitude

Dallas Willard, an American philosopher also known for his writings on Christian spiritual formation quotes this, “Solitude well practiced will break the power of busyness, haste, isolation, and loneliness. You will see that the world is not on your shoulders after all. You will find yourself, and God will find you in new ways. Silence also brings Sabbath to you. It completes solitude, for without it you cannot be alone. Far from being a mere absence, silence allows the reality of God to stand amid your life. God does not ordinarily compete for our attention. In silence, we come to attend.”

Solitude is a lost practice but it’s so necessary if we want to live a life of abundance. It reminds us to slow down and to embrace where we are. It slows us down long enough to really sit with ourselves and just be. It’s in solitude we are reminded we are human beings, not doings, and we can rest knowing we are not the ones in control of our lives.

  1. Less time on social media

Social media can be great, but by focusing on so many other lives, we may find it is taking the life out of us. When we scroll mindlessly through what everyone else is doing, we can end up feeling like we are missing out. The less time we spend on social media, the more time we have to create and live out our own unique lives and callings!

We hope these three practices encourage you to take a step back and embrace where you are and live this new year fully alive. Your soul was created to thrive.
