I recently was talking with a leader who confessed she was worried she had her hands in too many things and questioning if she was on the right path. It made me think of how often we allow the American mindset to determine what our lives “Should look like.” Go to school, land a great job, work 9-5, then eventually all too retire. We’ve let this shape our view of what a successful life looks like, but just because that’s what the majority does, doesn’t mean it’s what you have to do. You see, there is a specific path God has called you to walk in. Some, it might be working for the same job and having a consistent life. But for others, he hasn’t called you to that. So you don’t have to fit your life in an expectation of what others think you should be doing.

Some are called to have their hands in many different streams. There’s a raging river in the Gulf Of Mexico, but it got there only through all the rivers flowing from the Mississippi River and all the rivers that created it. That’s how God likes to work in our lives. There are many streams he may call you into, but they are all leading to a raging river that will produce a harvest in your life.

What matters isn’t how many streams you are in, but the purpose of the stream. You don’t need fewer streams, you need more. Streams in your life can all flow together to bring prosperity, influence, and freedom into your life. Even the average millionaire has 7 stretches of income. The most important thing is to know WHY you do what you do.

It’s easy to compare with other callings and want what they have. But what has God spoken over your life? What has he called you to?

The ministry you’re growing is God’s, not yours. And when God gives you an assignment it’s because he is growing you. He is the one who creates streams in your life, and he is also the one who has the power to sustain them.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by all the passions and dreams and callings on your life, lean into Jesus. He will show you the way. He put all of those desires in your life. He knows how to make the river flow. He will give you the download of how to balance them all, how to make them flow together, and how to ultimately lead you down the specific path he has called you to. Only you can be you. Own who God created you to be, and keep running your race.
