The time for action is now. The time to start going after your dreams is not later, but right now. Opportunities are awaiting you, and what if the only thing holding you back, was you? It’s time to take back the reins of your life and make choices that will get you to where you want to be. If there’s anything that will keep us from taking action, it’s passivity.

So what is passivity?

1. Acceptance of what happens, without active response or resistance.

2. The state of inactivity.

Passivity is the opposite of action. It’s complacency with the here and now, lacking the motivation to move forward. It’s different from being content. To be content is to be at peace with where you are, while still growing and moving forward. Passivity is a lack of motivation for change.

You can wish all day long to get into the gym, start writing that book, take a risk in any area of your life, but if your life is passive, it will keep you from having the willpower to take action. So how can we kick off passivity and take action starting today?

1. Write down your goals

When we plan for something, we are more likely to get it done. You can start small by making a list at the beginning of the week of what you want to accomplish that week. If you want to work on your health, you can focus in on that and write down your goals for the week. When it’s written and scheduled, we are more motivated to take action which breaks off passivity.

2. Get accountability

Next, tell someone what your goals are. Ask them to hold you accountable when you’re lacking the motivation to show up. We will all have off days, but sometimes those off days turn into off months, which turn into off years if we’re not being held accountable. Accountability is the key to breaking off passivity.

3. Make it a choice

Most days, we will not feel like doing what we know we are supposed to do. This is where passivity sneaks it’s way into our lives. We say “oh I’ll just start over tomorrow.” This happens when we make our goals an option rather than a choice to say yes too. If we wait until we feel like it, we may never show up. The best way to break off passivity is to just make it a choice to do what you know you are supposed to do. The more you do this, you will start to have more and more self-control.

We can’t wait to hear the results of you taking action in your life through these 3 simple steps!
