Now that you have a vision, you will need a plan of action in place. If we don’t have a clear plan for our lives, someone else will. We need to take charge of our lives. Know what we are saying yes to. And know what we are saying no to. The best way we can do this is by having a plan in place. Not just any plan, but a personal growth plan. At the beginning of our series, I mentioned the need for growth in all areas of our lives, not just one. Last week was all about the vision for your overall life, where you’re heading, and the big dreams you want to accomplish. But a personal growth plan is the guide that helps us get there, and stay healthy along the way. The best way to create this is by first, identifying the areas of growth you want to zone in on. Here are a few examples:
- Health and fitness
- Spiritual life
- Family and relationships
And then identify and get specific on how you want to grow in each area and break it down. We’re not going to recommend setting huge goals at first, rather build daily habits in your life.“I’m going to sign up for a gym and go 3 days a week.”“I’m going to run 3 days a week for 30 minutes”“I’m going to wake up and drink water first thing every day”“I’m going to eat more whole foods, and cut out soda and sugars”These are lifestyle habits that are easily attainable and can all be a part of your growth plan. The next step is to then set goals. Focus on the habits you want to build first, then set “personal growth” timelines with dates to follow up on your progress. Try setting 3-month goals, versus big goals for 12 months down the road. A goal could be as simple as: “ I will lose 10 pounds by March 20th” or “I want to run a full mile by end of this month! Write the plan, build the habits, then set a goal. Do this in each of these areas going into this new year, and focus on GROWTH, rather than quick results.
