In the midst of a crazy schedule, it’s easy to lose sight of why you love what you do. You have people to lead, deadlines to meet, work to get done… do you even have time to be grateful every single day? February is deemed a month full of love — every February 14th, we take time to cherish the people in our lives we love the most. We may get dressed up, do something intentional to show the person how much we love them, maybe even write down all of the things we appreciate about them. It’s a chance to celebrate our love… to be grateful for it. But what if we took some time to cherish the thing we love to do most, too? What would our work lives look like then? Daily gratitude plays a crucial role in the way you see the world. It helps keep you centered, positive, and appreciative even when you’re tired, stressed, or worn out. [bctt tweet="Daily gratitude plays a crucial role in the way you see the world." username="dukematlock"] Maybe you’re feeling stuck, strapped, burnt out or frustrated with where you are; these don’t even have to be daily feelings, either. You could love what you do with all your heart, but then a really bad day begins to entertain the kind of negativity that will knock you off-course. I don’t want that for you. I want you to keep loving what you do, even during the times you don’t feel like you do. One of the best ways to combat negativity — the type of negativity that hinders growth — is through gratitude. Something simple to make a part of your daily routine is setting aside some time to reflect on what you’re grateful for each day. It doesn’t have to be an elaborate declaration. It can be 5 minutes of you writing at your desk. Or maybe a mental list on your drive home. Maybe you’re grateful for your staff, a particular volunteer who really helped you out, or a spouse that is really understanding of your schedule. Even the roughest, most exhausting days have a few silver linings within them, so don’t forget about them. [bctt tweet="Even the roughest, most exhausting days have a few silver linings within them." username="dukematlock"] If you don’t feel like you have much to be grateful for, I made a list to help you get started:

  1. Be grateful for the encouragers in your life.
  1. Be grateful for the journey you are on.
  1. Be grateful for family and friends.
  1. Be grateful for small victories.
End your day on a positive note with a gratitude list and you’ll remember why you love what you do, even if you feel like what you do is difficult sometimes. The more you practice daily gratitude, the easier it will become to end each day with a grateful heart!
