Nothing challenges your mind, shifts your perspective, or broadens your worldview quite like investing in reading. Looking at the lives of highly successful people, they all have at least one thing in common: They’re readers! On your journey to growth and becoming better, your commitment to read is a game changer. So I wanted to give you some book recommendations that have helped me (and some of my coaching clients) in personal growth and success.

1. Teams That Thrive: Five Disciplines of Collaborative Church Leadership by Ryan T. Hartwig and Warren Bird

This book is a great resource for church leaders who want to have the most effective, collaborative, and thriving teams. You’ll learn some powerful lessons to apply to your current or future church leadership teams.

This is a huge, heavy book to read and apply in one sitting. I recommend reading it by yourself first, as I guide you through, and then you can read it again with your leadership team as you answer the reflection questions in the back of the chapters and participate in the challenges laid out throughout the book.

2. Giftology: The Art and Science of Using Gifts to Cut Through the Noise, Increase Referrals, and Strengthen Retention by John Ruhlin

This book is a game changer for a lot of reasons. But before you read it, I want you to go into this book with the mindset that this information is transferable. You don’t have to be the CEO of a corporate organization for this information to be useful to you. You don’t have to have million dollar clients to make radical giving a part of your professional life. You can use this method of giftology for clients, volunteers, family, friends, colleagues, staff. You can adopt it in your personal life as well. The purpose of this book is to get you thinking and moving like a giver. A radical giver that will attain personal, professional, and Kingdom-level success because of it!

3. 21 Seconds to Change Your World by Dr. Mark Rutland

Reading within the context of your spiritual live has the power to change your life. I was so moved by the content in this book that I added a new habit to my life. I now pray the Lord’s Prayer during my morning routine. Although prayer and reading the Word were both established habits in my life, it wasn’t until I read 21 Seconds that I added the habit of focused prayer. The addition of the Lord’s Prayer has added incredible value to my morning!

4. Get Up and Grow: 21 Habits of Successful People by Duke Matlock

Obviously, I’m a little biased. I wrote Get Up and Grow because I truly believe these habits have the ability to change people’s lives — their whole lives, not just one aspect of it. One of the foundations of this book: A little bit every day leads to a lot of impact. I hope these pages inspire you to take action in your own life to make real change, real growth, real success in every aspect of your life.

What books would you add to the list?
